About Heroes.
My name is Michaela Vardy, owner of and training provider for Heroes First Aid Training; delivering essential first aid training courses in the workplace, school, college, or other community setting within the Derbyshire area.
As a qualified paediatric nurse with many years' experience on the front line of busy emergency departments, I am all too aware of how important the fast response and fast actions of others can be, especially in the event of a life or death situation, and this is why I decided to establish Heroes so that I can share the knowledge and skills I have learnt over the years with others, to help boost confidence in existing first aiders, and as a prerequisite for competence for those who may need more advanced training in order to comply with certain criteria or standards.
Heroes training courses are open to anyone wishing to learn first aid including parents, child minders, scout groups, teachers, employers, and employees and I offer a number of both basic and more in-depth training courses designed to comply with standards set out by governing bodies such as Ofsted, Health & Safety Executive, Early Years Statutory Framework, and Resuscitation Council UK; with some also meet the criteria for Millie's Mark, an exceptional achievement for childcare settings that go above and beyond the minimum requirements in keeping children safe.
Whether you're a complete novice, a competent first aider looking to add to your existing skill set, or whether you're a confident first aider looking to enhance your level of competence in order to comply with contractual workplace commitments or legal requirements, then Heroes has a course for you.
All training courses are carried out in an enjoyable, friendly, and relaxed manner and will consist of both theory and hands-on practise, as well as offering ample opportunities for you to ask questions, and what's more, there's no need for you to lose time out of your day travelling to and from your training course as Heroes operates on an outreach basis only within the Derbyshire area, meaning the training course comes to you. You can read more about each individual course including how long the course takes, who each course is tailored to suit, and which topics are covered on each individual course page which you can access via the drop-down menu under the 'Training Courses' link on the menu at the top of this page, or by clicking here.
At the end of your training course you will receive certification to prove that you are competent in first aid at that level, whichever that level may be. Certificates are valid for three years from the date of issue, but the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advice is that you carry out refresher training every 12 months. At the end of the three year period, unless you complete a refresher course, your certificate will no longer be valid and you will no longer be considered a competent first aider, so it's important for you to keep up to date with your training on a regular basis.
